Anonymous personal narrative #5, 2023
I first came across cement land with my parkour friends some years back probably around 2018, my friends would sometimes do flips across large gaps in one of the main factory's. I was always amazed at how that place could create a sense e of sperateness from the urban city life that I was surrounded by on a day to day basis. I would often be amazed by all the graffiti artist that had left their mark through every corner of cement land. There had to be thousands of people that had come through and left their mark including myself. I would also take my close friends to cement land and we would smoke and connect with each other at the top of the main tower. the view was absoluty beautiful. I loved the sense of survival that the place gave me as there were many spots in cement land that could be really dangerous such as death drops, deteriorating metal and concrete. Cement land was a true world of its own. I highly consider it a spiritual place. I would often go there to disconnect from my everyday life and relish in the Beauty of the dilapidated and overgrown landscape of cement land. I loved seeing the plants somehow growing through the concrete reaching for the sun. No mater where I have lived in the last seven years, I'v always found a way to make it to cement land, my place of rest and calm. personally Im really saddened to hear that someone bought it just to tear it down. I hope that your project can really give people a sense of what this place was like as it was a gem of a spot to find when it comes to urban in saint Louis.
